Question #23 answer
Which of the following is true?
A. FQs can be good monotherapy options for infections caused by susceptible Staphylococci
B. FQs can be good monotherapy option for infections caused by susceptible Enterococci
C. FQs can be good monotherapy options for infections caused by susceptible E. coli
D. All listed options are true
NOTE 1: Staphylococci and Enterococci can easily develop resistance to FQs. Resistance rates with FQs to Staphylococci and Enterococci skyrocketed with the release of FQs to the market. In general try to avoid using a FQ for either of these organisms and if you do use a FQ for one of these then you likely need to use it in combination with at least one other drug (e.g., rifampin).
NOTE 2: Delafloxacin may be different from the others. Delafloxacin is being marketed as a FQ good for MRSA.
